The Urban Manners Manifesto: A Practical Guide For A**holes by Morgen La Civita & Margaret McClure

Social etiquette can be challenging even in the most controlled environments. Luckily, there are plenty of guidelines out there for properly conducting yourself at dinner parties. But what if your life doesn't revolve around seven-course meals and country clubs? What if getting through your day involves crowded buses, long lines, public restrooms, and randomly placed landmines of dog s**t?

Maybe you're new to the city, just visiting, or you're a native. Whatever the case, it's tough to know all the proper rules of society in the battle conditions of modern urban sprawl. After all, good manners require the awareness that you are not the only person in the world, and that can be hard to do when you're just trying to get through your day in one piece.

But acting like a human being isn't as hard as you might think. In this handy little book, Morgen and Mags tell you everything you need to know about urban etiquette. They lay out the ground rules of the do's and don'ts in a way that's fun, fast and full of info easily understood by everyone - even a**holes.

Thinking about grabbing a lamb kabob before getting on the bus? Wondering if hitting on that hot one sitting next to you on the subway is a good idea? Not sure if cleaning your ears can wait until you get home? Confused about whether you should you flush the toilet after using it or leave it there as a way to mark your territory at Starbucks? We've got you covered!

We're going to help you with those tough decisions and get you acting like a responsible member of society in no time. Join us for some personal anecdotes, practical advice, and some very gross pictures.

Story:
🌑🌑🌑🌑

When I was young and full of hope, I joined some advocacy in the hopes of changing the country for the better. Years after, nothing has changed and worst, majority of the people voted for a giant asshole. I strongly believe, as one sage person said, your choice of politician reflects who you are as a person. Now that that I am bitter and old, I have zero fucks to give and if the next election yields even more dismal results, I'll pretend I live in a dystopian novel. So when presented with The Urban Manners Manifesto, I felt simultaneously relieved that this kind of shit is not limited to my country alone and dismay that everywhere you go, even in advanced countries, assholes exist or else Morgen and  Margaret would not have written this book.

The Urban Manners Manifesto contains guides on behavior that should actually be common sense already but for some reason many people hadn't picked these habits yet. Written in a direct, no bullshit way, the Manifesto hit a lot of nerves, some of the offenses pointed out I'm also guilty of. It's funny and witty and had me nodding to most of them and going, OMG yes!

I don't know if Morgen and Margaret do talks about the Manifesto but I think they should create a TED Talk video about this using exactly the same language they used in the book. The authors didn't mince words which I think gets the point across very effectively.

As the blurb says, if you have some trouble acting like a human or know somebody who has trouble doing so, pick up this The Urban Manners Manifesto. Read it, share it.

P.S.

Thank you to the authors, Morgen La Civita & Margaret McClure, for providing me a copy.

Concrete Jungle
Au/Ra

Vultures sit on skyscrapers
Watchin' for the ones who fall down first
Everything you want in 24 hours
But nothin' you need
Cracks in the pavement scorpions
Abandoned retail emporiums
Amazon Prime, the new world power
As long as its cheap
We don't get no sleep, no sleep at all
We're nocturnal
In this concrete jungle
We all act like animals
We're runnin on pure instinct
No we ain't scared of nothin'
In this concrete jungle
We make our homes in city walls
You know we gotta run so wild
To keep up with this life style (in this
In this wasteland you can die of thirst
Or drown in the lack of your own words
Swimmin' with the sharks in your own bathtub
With money to burn
Wolves at your door, moon in the sky
Last in the food chain, get the lights
It's gonna get dark in nature's night club
If we never learn
We don't get no sleep, no sleep at all
We're nocturnal
In this concrete jungle
We all act like animals
We're runnin' on pure instinct
No we ain't scared of nothin' (no)
In this concrete jungle
We make our homes in city walls
You know we gotta run so wild
To keep up with this life style
In this concrete jungle
In this concrete jungle
