Queens, Psiots, Sirens and Executive Assistants: Graphic Novels About Women With Power

Vagrant Queen Vol. 1 (Vagrant Queen #1-6) by Magdalene Visaggio, Jason Smith, Henry Saxon & Zakk Saam

Former child queen Elida was driven from her throne at age ten and forced to wander the galaxy, evading the revolutionary forces that wanted her dead. When an old frenemy claims to know the whereabouts of Elida’s long-lost mother, she is forced to return to her former kingdom and stage a rescue.

I love a lot of things about this! The retro vibe is uber cool. Elida is one tough royal who can beat anybody's ass. There are no romantic angles. The back stories were very intriguing. And it's a super fun space romp that left me begging for more.

Highly Recommended!

Livewire #1 (Livewire #1) by Vita AyalaRaul AllenPatricia Martin &Adam Pollina

Accomplice. Mentor. Savior. And now, Enemy of the State. Seeking to protect other vulnerable super-powered psiots like herself, Livewire plunged the United States into a nationwide blackout with her technopathic abilities, causing untold devastation. After choosing the few over the many, she must now outrun the government she served – and those she once called allies. With the whole world hunting her, what kind of hero will Livewire be…or will she be one at all?

From rising star Vita Ayala (Supergirl) and astounding artists Raúl Allén and Patricia Martín (SECRET WEAPONS) comes an electrifying new series that will launch the Valiant Universe into a new age of champions!

I want her superpower!

This is an exciting start to a series which promises to be even more explosive. The story explores the conflict between good and greater good, evil and lesser evil as Livewire tries to save her friends and avoid getting caught by the government.

It's has all the high octane fight scenes and human drama to keep us riveted.

Also highly recommended!

Aristophania 1. The Kingdom of Azur by Dorison Xavier &Parnotte Joël

It is the early 1900s and the three Francoeur children are struggling to survive in the slums of Paris. But their lives change forever with the arrival of a mysterious stranger from their father's past. Countess Aristophania Bolt from the Kingdom of Azur claims she has come to help the trio, but between disturbing phenomena—tricks or sorcery?—and invisible threats, it is hard to know whom to trust...

This has an interesting premise. I totally love the concept of a superhero granny. Unfortunately, the storytelling was boring. The sequence of events and the way some things were told rather than shown didn't make for an exciting delivery.  It also didn't help that the lettering of the comics was small and dense and there were many talky bits at some points. It ended with a cliffhanger but I'm not sure if I'm going to pick up the sequel.

Executive Assistant Iris Vol. 1 (Executive Assistant Iris Collected #1) by David Wohl,Brad Foxhoven, Eduardo Francisco, Jason Gorder & Josh Reed

The backstory is even more sordid as it is later revealed that there were more girls abused and trained to become an "executive assistant" like Iris. The rest of the comics deals with Irish making her choice and fighting hard for that choice.

I enjoyed the story overall. It wasn't mindblowing or unique but it was still fun.

SOUNDTRACK
Victorious
Wolfmother
Victorious

It seems the competition is riding on her tail
It seems that they were hoping she, hoping she would fail
The time has come to raise our gauntlets to the sun
But she will prove herself worthy
She will be the one

She will be victorious
Hate won't get the better of us
Her ways are mysterious
'Cause she will be victorious

It seems that they are plotting now, all about destruction
With the things that they have made around their own construction
And can't you see that we are all the masters of our destiny?
And she won't become the victim of your faded memory

She will be victorious
Hate won't get the better of us
Her ways are mysterious
'Cause she will be victorious

Don't you ever get tired and feel like giving up?
Don't you ever feel like, like you've had enough?
Don't you ever get tired of wondering what's wrong or right?
Don't you ever get tired and feel like giving up?

It seems that others thought they could take all their sweet time
Sippin' cocktails in the sun, enjoying the sunshine
She can't wait to unleash, unleash all her rage
With an electric guitar and blow them off the stage

She will be victorious
Hate won't get the better of us
Her ways are mysterious
'Cause she will be victorious

'Cause she will be victorious
