Seto Utsumi by Kazuya Konomoto

This manga has been made into a movie and a TV drama in japan."I wish we could just spend all our high school days sittin' and chattin' by this river." This seven chapter volume is a collection of the funky, off-the-wall, and sometimes cynical after-school conversations between Seto and Utsumi, two high-schoolers from the Kansai region of Japan.

Seto Utsumi is a manga about two friends just shooting the breeze. The conversations range from funny and nonsensical, everyday observations to something as profound as Buddhist philosophy. It's also a slice of life kind of manga and for me, nobody does slice of life the way Japanese mangaka do. My favorite aspect of it all is there's this low key vibe to everything and then something, usually a super minor detail, like an umbrella hidden inside a bag or how seeing somebody who bullies you say "Thanks" to his father, can have such an impact. The artwork also looks good.

I love this manga!

P.S.

My shipper heart is shipping them but yeah, I understand it's platonic.

I received a copy of Seto Utsumi from Akita Publishing Co via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
